Their slogan might well be "nothing too big or too small."
Which brings us to a tiny Fiat 600 which they tuned for a customer interested in entering competition motoring - sprints, hill-climbs and the like - who wanted to drive something "different".
The Fiat was considered ideal - save that it was discouragingly down on power.  Initially, the major object of the conversion was merely to give 850 c.c. Minis some opposition; in fact, the final results of the conversion made the Fiat a worthy opponent of Mini Coopers.

New pistons - a "must" - were specially machined and individually matched to the respective bores.  Their crowns were specially shaped to clear the valves and increase the compression ratio of the engine. (…)
Regrinding of the cam profiles was another job carried out.  This increased the lift of the cam by 20 per cent.  The cylinder head was left untouched.   Nothing was done to ports or combustion chambers and valve sizes were unchanged, though on reassembly stronger valve springs were fitted.  The net result was an 850 c.c. car with Mini Cooper performance. (…)
During the testing of this car we undoubtedly left behind us a long trail of frustrated Mini drivers who are probably still wondering what went past them.  One of the most astounding features of this vehicle was its all-round flexibility. (…)
The engine could generally be taken to the 6,500 r.p.m. mark before making a change of gear.  At a pinch it would go up to 7,000 r.p.m., but this was recommended for short periods only. (…) With this extra power potential the car was extremely skittish at the back. (…)
This car, which had been used extensively in competitions throughout the season, was slightly down on power.  Even so, it certainly had an impressive performance - one that speaks highly of the engineering abilities of the M.P.G. & H. technicians, (…) a performance equal to, if not better than, many more expensive Fiat conversions has been obtained.

A new semiautomatic transmission was introduced in 1966. This used a conventional gearlever but dispensed with the clutch pedal, instead using a switch on the gear lever. The whole 850 range was revised and facelifted in 1968.

This 1967 850 Spider is an excellent example of the keep-it-simple approach. It's successfully raced in vintage competition despite its lack of upgrades that many 850 racers consider essential. For example, it has no oil cooler, retains the stock centrifugal oil filter and sump, and has only a slightly modified stock carburator.
