Marchionne èstato eletto da Automotive News leader dell’industria automobilistica e star fra gli amministratori delegati del Nord America dell’anno, letteralmente “Industry Leader of the Year, Ceo, North America”.

Come i grandi sportivi degli sport USA, è entrato nell’annuale “squadra di stelle”. Il riconoscimento di Automotive News infatti è relativo agli All Stars 2014, ovvero i maggiori  protagonisti dello scenario automobilistico.

Ovvero. “Non dovete guardare molto lontano per trovare il manager dell’anno 2014. Si tratta di Sergio Marchionne, l’avvocato italo canadese, fumatore seriale di sigarette, trangugiatore di caffè, instancabile lavoratore nutro, che continua a fabbricare miracoli alla Chrysler“.

Sergio Marchionne has been showered with accolades since 2009, when he saw potential in a demoralized Chrysler and crafted a strategic alliance with Fiat that saved the ailing U.S. automaker.

His early moves were impressive — such as overhauling Chrysler’s vehicle lineup and putting a new focus on interiors and transmissions. They just weren’t conclusive.

Though Chrysler and most other automakers were rebounding by 2010, the company’s future still seemed in doubt as late as 2011.

As for Marchionne, he got points for being a tough and canny negotiator, a workaholic nonpareil and all the rest. But did he really know how to run an American car company?

Even Marchionne seemed to harbor doubts. In 2009, he said: “I think Chrysler has all the prerequisites to survive. But the bigger issue is, what does it look like two or three years from now? It’s not as if Fiat is going to show up and Cinderella is going to be magically turned into something else.”

But there has been magic — especially in the past 12 months.

This year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has gained more than a percentage point of market share in the U.S., hitting a level Chrysler has not seen since 2007. Through October, No. 4 FCA has extended its lead over No. 5 American Honda by almost 229,000 vehicles compared with the same months in 2013. And it has pulled 129,000 vehicles closer to No. 3 Toyota Motor Sales USA.

Chrysler Group’s run of consecutive monthly year-on-year sales gains is approaching five years. The Jeep brand is about to set its fourth straight global sales record and is up an astounding 46 percent this year in the U.S.

Chrysler dealers are enjoying profits comparable to the company’s 1990s heyday levels, and, most important, Chrysler is building vehicles that can compete with the best. Marchionne has restored the company’s historic focus on engineering with technology such as the Hellcat engine that debuted this year.

Also this year, he engineered the purchase of the remainder of Chrysler Group by Fiat S.p.A. from the UAW retiree health care trust and completed the successful merger of the two entities.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles shares are now listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and Marchionne has kept his combined company profitable despite worsening business conditions in Europe and Latin America — thanks to that potential that he saw in Chrysler almost six years ago.

In May, he laid out impressively detailed five-year business plans for each of the combined company’s business units.

The job isn’t done. No job like Marchionne’s ever is. But there is no doubting that the man is a wonder worker.

For years, the story was about Marchionne’s leadership style, the black sweaters and cigarettes and all-night, work-athon flights from Turin to Detroit. And, at 62, he remains as deeply involved as ever. But he also empowers executives to make important decisions without delay. And when those executives don’t perform, he replaces them — almost always from within.

Marchionne still can rankle with his outspokenness. In August, he said suppliers’ high profits were making his “blood pressure go up,” and he wanted to find a way to “allow them to rub off some of their newfound wealth onto us.” Supplier executives were not amused.

But if Marchionne can rankle, he also can disarm with his commitment to his people. At a dedication for a new transmission plant in May, a choked-up UAW local president thanked Marchionne for restoring the dignity of working at Chrysler — and then embraced him like a man might hug his dying grandfather.

Espero que tudo corra bem e que ele seja mesmo o que parece, aqui em Portugal tivemos uns gestores muito premiados e no fim... nem dá para acreditar nas asneiras que fizeram, podem ser corruptos, burros, anjinhos, ladrões, etc, tudo isso lhes assenta bem, só sei que o resultado final é muito mau, que na FCA seja tudo muito melhor gerido!!
